Welcome to the home of the NYWF OGRE production pipeline

OGRE is an open source 3D render engine. OGRE is supported by a vivid community and has a very extensive tools, code and support base.

Here's the statement from the OGRE website:

Since 2001, OGRE has grown to become one of the most popular open-source graphics rendering engines, and has been used in a large number of production projects, in such diverse areas as games, simulators, educational software, interactive art, scientific visualisation, and others. You can read what other people have said about it, and it's free, so why not try it out?

Over the next three months I will to document an approach to create a complete (and mostly OpenSource) production pipeline using the OGRE engine. I will cover all aspects from creating polygons to running the final application.

I am working on a large project that is bringing the New York World's fair 64/65 back to life in 3D. The project is financed by The National Science Foundation and executed by the Media Convergence Lab which is part of the Institute for Simulation and Training at the University of Central Florida and has now entered a three year production cycle.

Right now we're establishing the fundamental techniques we're going to use during the production. Defining the render system, sky-, cloud-, and tree-system we will use and establish a work flow for the modeling team that will come in at the end of January.

THE great companion for this topic is the Ogre3D DCC Wiki page.

What we will add here is our own tools and tutorials and potentially reviews of tools and solutions we testd.

For now I've disabled editing by anonymous visitors. I am new to Wikis and I need to get a feeling for how this goes. And we all have enough vodka, viagra and all that ;)
